I wish I .......

How often do you find yourself saying “I wish I had.....or I wish I could….” ?

We use the words "I wish" because deep down we believe that it is something that probably cannot or will not happen.

The good news is, you can make your wish come true.

It doesn’t matter whether you are trying to save money, tone up that beautiful body of yours or learn a new skill.  Whatever it is, the way to achieve your wish is to start working towards it today and the next day and the next day and so on.

For years I “wished” that my husband and I could have an overseas holiday with our adult children.  Every time I thought about it I was overwhelmed with all the reasons why we couldn't i.e. it would cost too much and how could we possible organize it with everyone’s busy schedule etc. etc.

It wasn’t until I took some action and started investigating, planning and discussing it that my wish started to come true.  Yes, it did take nearly 2 years to organize and there were lots of moments where I felt like giving up.   It was extremely difficult to pinpoint a time when all of us could be in one place at one time.  Finally, little by little it all came together and there we were, all of us together in a beautiful villa in Umbria, Italy.

It was one of the happiest weeks of my life and something that we as a family will always treasure and remember.

No matter how big, scary or impossible your wish seems to be,  choose one simple action that will move you closer and start with that.   After you have done that choose another and another and before you know it, your wish might just come true!

That Feeling of Defeat

I am sure you would have heard the quote “You only fail when you finally give up”

Well, I have to confess that I have come very close to failing with my commitment to write a weekly blog.  The weeks have slipped by and now it has been nearly three months since my last post.

During this time my Inner Critic has been very active in reminding me how I have failed to write and the longer I have left it, the louder and more persuasive that voice has become.  Thankfully, through lots of experience,  I know that the best way to silence that voice is to take action and prove it wrong hence here is my next blog!

Three things that have helped me overcome my procrastination are:

1.         Deciding that I am NOT going to give into allowing myself to feel like a failure by giving up.
2.         Designating and diarizing a specific time in which to write the post.
3.         Doing it! Removing all distractions, and determining that I will stay at my desk until it is completed.

I am often amazed that when I have managed to overcome procrastination and complete a task I have been putting off for ages that:

 a) It doesn’t usually take that long to actually do the task
 b) That I always feel so energized, happy and motivated afterwards.

Let me encourage you that if there is something that you have given up on doing or feel that you have failed at  decide right now to take action and “Just Do It”.

I guarantee you will feel so good when you have completed it!

Who Needs a Life Coach when you can have a desk Calendar?

I flipped over my desk calendar today and saw this.....

Yikes!!!   My desk calendar can read my mind!

It was exactly what I had been thinking about!.  Wow!  Who needs a Life Coach when you can have a desk calendar??  (Don't answer that question or I might be out of a job)  :)

Anyway, the need to keep on keeping on making small but significant choices or  changes about what I do (or do not do) on a daily basis was my focus for this week.

Like most of us I would prefer instant pain-free achievement however both my life experience and my study tell me that success requires daily thoughtful and purposeful choices or changes that move us towards our goals.

One of my favorite sayings is “Success comes with a few small disciplines practiced daily” J. Rohn

We currently have some renovations underway at our home and as I observed the bricklayers working I noticed the consistent care and thought that went into the placement each brick in just the right place to create a stunning curved wall.

The choices we make each day are just like those bricks.

One brick laid correctly at a time builds a wall.

One small, positive choice or change at a time builds success in our lives!

Go to it and build a wall of success in your life that you will be so proud of!

Enforced Celebrations

Enforced Celebrations

It was Fathers Day last Sunday and I have to say I often feel a bit resentful about “enforced” celebrations.

However, when the day came it was really wonderful because it made us take time out to celebrate and appreciate our family.

I’m not sure if it was “The Cake of Happiness" that I made for my husband and my Dad, the kids coming over and cooking a delicious lunch for us or the fact that I got to tell my 84 year old Dad how much I love and appreciate him one more time.

Whatever it was, I am so glad that we all made the effort to come together to celebrate.   It was such a happy, happy day!

The famous "Cake of Happiness" (because you can't take a bite without feeling soooo happy)!
