Reaching your Potential

In order to reach your potential, what do you need to change?

We all dream about things that we would like to achieve and choosing to make changes or set ourselves a goal to achieve our dream is the easy part. Actually achieving them is the hard part.

For example, lets look at the “I want to get fit” goal. We usually start full of enthusiasm and action, we enlist the help of a friend to walk with, we join a gym and book ourselves in for exercise classes, we even give ourselves a treat and buy some new gym shoes and clothes.  However one week later the  5.30am alarm goes off and we  roll over and ignore it  because we are too tired, its too cold  or too wet.  We promise ourselves that  we will exercise later to make up for it, but then our day gets busy and we just don’t have time.  Before we know it, the reasons why we cant exercise get bigger than the reasons that we should exercise and once again, we have failed to reach our goal.

Here’s a tip to help you succeed.  Whenever we set ourselves a goal we have to count the cost and compare that with achieving the goal.  Ask yourself “What is this going to cost me?   Is it worth it?  What will I need to do/be to achieve this?”   When you have  thought it through decide “Am I willing to pay the price?”

The habits that have brought you to the place that you are now in will not usually be enough to carry you to the place you are trying to reach.  You have to stretch yourself.  You have to be willing to change, to learn, improve your skills, grow your self-dicipline and be determined.  Anyone can do this, you just have to make a decision to start.

inspiredtoB

Blog 7th Sept 2011

It’s been a BIG week for me with the official launch of my inspiredtoB Brand.  It is so wonderful to finally see the completion of a dream. I’ve been thinking and saying for ages that “I must get a website for my business”. However, I didn’t spring into action until one of my clients said “In this day and age there is no excuse for a business not to have a website”.  It was time for action!

What followed was a lot of hard work trying to capture the essence of what inspiredtoB is about and translate that to a brand and website. Thankfully in life, its not often we have to do things alone so I enlisted the help of a switched on creative designer who patiently worked through the process with me until we had something that we were both excited and inspired about.

So, here are four things I have learned along the way that I hope will encourage and inspire you

1.  Dare to Dream.
If you can see it, you can believe it and if you can believe it you can achieve it!  So begin to imagine and dream about the things you want to accomplish.   Write them down and set a date for accomplishing them.

2.  Nothing happens if nothing happens.
In other words, you have got to stop procrastinating and take action to make things happen. The good news is you only have to take one step at a time and if you keep doing this and don’t give up you will get there.

3.  You don’t have to do it on your own.
Do what you can then get help from an expert, to do what you can’t do  - ask for help!

4.  It’s worth it.
There is something wonderful about having an idea, even if it is just a tiny hope inside your heart and then having the courage and determination to go after it and achieve it.
So go on, stop wishing.  Believe in yourself, have confidence in your abilities, take action and start achieving!

"The most important thing in life is to stop saying 'I wish' and start saying 'I will.' Consider nothing impossible, then treat possiblities as probabilities."

It's all about Time!

 27th August, 2011

I have recently spent a week away with my family in Umbria, a most beautiful part of Italy.

It has given me time to stop and step out of my everyday life and the things that fill it. Time to rest. Time to think. Time to be with my family. Time to laugh uncontrollably at silly things and wonderful memories. Time to listen. Time to contemplate. Time to dream. Time to be refreshed and time to be inspired.

When I ask people "what is the most valuable thing in your life?" they often respond with "my family" or "my health".  These things are valuable however, I am wondering if 'time' might be the most valuable thing we have in our lives?

Time is so precious. We cannot hold it, we cannot store it away and we never know know how much of it we have left, maybe a lifetime or maybe just a day or two.  One thing that we do know about time is that it  is one of the greatest gifts we have and one of the greatest gifts that we can give.

What I find really amazing is that we have the privilege of choosing how we spend it!

Laughter!

What a great weekend I have had!  I went away with10 gorgeous girls to a villa on the canals in Mandurah so there was lots of talking, listening, thinking, laughing, fun, food and a splash or two of wine.
There is something wonderful about going away from your usual environment for a night or two.  It gives you a rest from your routine and chance for a fresh perspective on things.    As you can imagine with 10 girls there was also plenty of opportunity for a really good laugh and it made me feel so good.
Research has found that laughter is good for our health and serves as an emotional balancing mechanism.
This backs up the old saying that “Laughter is the best medicine.”

Just before you start begging someone to tickle you to make you laugh I need to let you know that it is possible to die from laughter.  In 1975 Alex Mitchell died laughing while watching an episode of “The Goodies”.  After 25 minutes of continuous laughter Alex slumped on the sofa and died from heart failure.  His widow later sent The Goodies a letter thanking them for making his final moments so pleasant.   What a way to go!
OK, I don’t want you to die from laughter but I do want to encourage you have have a good laugh every day.  E.E. Cummings says,   “The most wasted of all days in one without laughter”

So don’t waste your day.  Look for something to laugh about and if all else fails, check out this link.  Go on, have a laugh and feel great!

"If it is to Be, It is up to Me"

So here it is, the first post of the inspiredtoB blog!

I have been saying to myself for ages that “I should be on Twitter and I should have a blog” however it wasn’t until I finally decided to get serious and get someone to help me that it finally happened.   Hoorayyyy!

So let’s get started……..

I was talking with a friend this week and they said they had realised that “If it is to be, it is up to me”.

I don’t know the original author of this quote but I can’t help thinking how clever yet how simple it is and how many areas of your life you can apply it to!

It reminds me that if I want things to happen in my life then it is up to me to make them happen.  It means I have to take responsibility and the great thing about taking responsibility is that I can’t blame anyone or anything else.  I get to choose what I will do and what I will not do.

Take this blog for instance, it’s something that I have wanted to do for ages but it wasn’t until I took responsibility, combined it with action and found someone to help me that it happened.

  In other words........

“If it was to be, it really was up to ME!”
